Module 1 - Introductory Level
Aim:
To introduce delegates to the key features of Word, so that they are able to produce different kinds of documentation, and are aware of the techniques used by word processors to manipulate text.
Duration:
Half a day (9:30 am to 12:30 pm or 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm).
Who Should Attend:
Anybody responsible for typing correspondence, legal documents, reports etc. Experience of using the mouse and the Windows environment would be useful (or delegates will have previously attended the Microsoft Windows course).
Course Content:
● The Word Screen - An explanation of the Microsoft Word screen elements and their uses (title bar, toolbars, ruler, status bar).
● Entering/Editing Text - Using the mouse and keyboard to move the cursor around a document plus adding, changing and deleting text.
● Checking for Spelling/ Grammar Mistakes - A look at Word's spelling and grammar facilities: running the spell checker after a document has been typed and using the automatic spell checker and AutoCorrection tools.
● Character Formatting - Using both keyboard and mouse methods to apply bold, italic and underline and changing the font and text size. Applying formatting commands as you type and using selecting techniques to change the formats of existing text.
● Copying and Moving - Using the Cut/Copy and Paste technique to move or copy blocks of text to new locations in a document, and using Drag and Drop.
● Saving and Retrieving - Principals of saving a file to drives and folders and retrieving it for further use.
● Printing - Using Print Preview to view the finished document and sending it to print.
